Brick-like styling. The last two years worth sat around for a long time waiting to be sold which delayed the UK launch of the new model. Not quite as reliable as you might expect, possibly due to long wait for a buyer. Re-incarnated (disastrously) as the Vauxhall Monterey. Report of a TSB to replace faulty injectors, but may be confused with common rail injector problems of later model. Also reports of glow plugs of diesels being blown out of the engines. Timing belt warning light comes on every 60,000 miles. To reset after changing the belt, feel for a square stub of plastic on the back of the speedo and slide it to the side. Next 60k change, slide it back.
What to Watch Out For
Rust, signs of hard usage such as a battered floor, scrubs on bodywork, oil leaks from powertrain, inadequate servicing, broken springs, shocked out shocks, uneven tyre wear, smoke from diesel's turbo, crunchy gearchange. Make sure four-wheel-drive engages properly. If it has a tow hook, what has it been towing - and where? Could have been pulling a livestock trailer over a Welsh mountain. Not quite the same 'green welly' appeal as a Discovery or a Shogun, so more likely to have been a working vehicle.
