Vauxhall vectra,corsa,astra,ecotec,headgasket failure,tigra,meriva,zafira,camshaft failure
ecotec engine probably regarded as the most unreliable engine on the market prone to headgasket failure,waterpump and the 2.0 DI diesel engine fitted to most vectra,astra prone to diesel pump failure,the 1.4 ecotec fitted to the meriva lacks any grunt at all due to the size of the meriva.
there needs to be regular oil changes on the 1.2 petrol powered corsa single over head cam,due to camshaft failure.
Tigra
Poor wet-weather starting; hard to localise where the problem lies.
That omnipresent Vauxhall fault: the dreaded engine management warning light, making repeated and apparently spurious indications which are disconcerting to say the least! Our Vauxhall Omega 2.0 16V GLS does exactly the same, but at least its engine totally stalls in sympathy.... talking of which, the problem with both shaky cambelt engineering and faulty sensors, idle valve switch issues, etc., seems as much a feature of the Tigra as it is with the Omega. Presumably Vauxhall don't want the small car owner to feel left out on the nightmare front??
Ecotec engine fitted in the astra,calibra,vectra not very reliable,funny enough not to many problems in the omega???,must be because it is in a transverse state.
Vauxhall/opel common faults
Vauxhall Astra, Vectra, Omega & Frontera 16V 1992 onwards
The most common failure for these vehicles is a breakdown of the cam sensor this will bring the engine management light on and can cause rough running and power loss. These sensor are easily replaced taking around 45 mins in total.
The next most common failure is the air mass meter usually costing around £250 depending on the exact model.
Vauxhall Astra, Vectra, corsa 1998 onwards
The single most common fault for these models is EGR solenoid failure normally the solenoid will need to be replaced but can also be cleaned out to prolong its life.
Vauxhall Corsa 1.4, 1.0 1997 onwards
Common fault with the idle stepper motor causing stalling and erratic idle speed, this is quite a simple fix with just three bolts holding it in place normally takes around 1 hr including reading and resetting the fault codes.
